The Solar Process

Step 1 - Step 2 - Step 3

The process of going solar can seem very overwhelming!

In reality, though, it is quite easy now!

There are just a few simple steps to going solar…

7 Steps To Going Solar

Step 1: Initial Contact Meeting

It all starts by meeting with a Professional Energy Consultant. This meeting typically takes about 30-45 minutes. Your Energy Consultant will gather the necessary information (like your latest power bill, electric usage, contact info, etc.) and use that information to generate a custom solar system design. They will explain the process and benefits of going solar, as well as the options available to you. If one of the solar options makes sense for your home, your Energy Consultant will also help you qualify for that option and schedule a Site Inspection.

Step 2: Site Inspection

A solar technician will come to your home at your convenience and survey your home to ensure that your property will be solar compatible. They look at things like your appliances, electrical panel, the trusses in your attic or crawlspace, and your roof to make sure that everything will fit as expected.

Step 3: Final Design Review

Once the Site Inspection has been completed, the design team will review the findings of the Inspection and make any necessary changes to your Solar Design. Your Energy Consultant will provide you with the final design for approval. Once you have approved the final design, you will move on to the next step.

If it is determined that no changes to the original design are necessary, you will be notified that there were no changes and the process will continue to the next step.

Step 4:  Permitting & Utility Approval

Once the final design has been reviewed & approved, your solar company will submit for the necessary permits and utility approval. This part of the process can be as quick a 2 weeks, or take as long as 6 weeks. It all depends on your home and in what part of Las Vegas your home is located. During this time, if your home is part of a Homeowners Association, you will want to take care of informing your HOA and getting any necessary approval from them.

Step 5: Installation

After all of the necessary approvals have been granted, your Solar Consultant will work with you to schedule an installation date. Installation time varies, and depends on how large of a system your home needs. Smaller systems may take as little as 4 hours, where as large systems can take 2 days.

Step 6: Inspection

Once your system has been installed, the necessary inspections must take place before turning on the system to ensure that everything has been installed and connected correctly. There are several inspections that take place during this step. The Solar Company will typically send out an inspector, as well as the city and utility. This process can take up to 3 months.

Step 7: Utility Connection & PTO

After all of the necessary inspections have been conducted and it is determined that your system is secure and operational, your utility will schedule a time to install your new Net Meter and issue PTO, or Permission To Operate. At this point, you can turn on your system and start using clean energy to power your home and save money on those monthly electric bills!
